Solid State Power Controllers are the next generation in the evolution in “systemising” of Solid State/ Smart Solid State Relay technology. The SSPC typically is a smaller, lighter, and more reliable replacement for the combined functions of a circuit breaker, associated intelligent Solid State Relay combinations, and output power requirements. The Solid State Power Controller provides internal “self-protection”, in addition to protecting the ultimate load and associated interconnected systems.
Typically SSPCs utilise transformer isolation due to the higher power levels. Instant trip protection is provided to protect against shorts with an I2t trip, similar to a MIL-STD-704 trip profile, added to support higher in-rush current and system start-up current while providing protection for wiring, connectors, and other equipment
Space Flight projects benefit from high reliability SSPCs (up through MIL-PRF 38534 “K LEVEL”), payload monitoring and remote trip reset functions
