Hioki M7103 Power Measurement Module for compact PV inverter testing

New Hioki M7103 Power Measurement Module - Mastering High-Voltage Power Measurement

Radically improved efficiency for inspection of high-voltage PV inverters with multi-channel power measurement by a new data logger module.

HIOKI, a lead manufacturer in test and measurement, has released a new Power Measurement Module, the M7103. The M7103 is a module designed for the LR8101 and LR8102 data loggers released last year. This new module can measure power on power lines up to a maximum voltage of 1,500 V, combining one LR8102 data logger and four M7103s enabling multi-channel power measurement of up to 12 channels. Furthermore, this combination can be expanded up to 120 channels by connecting in series. This benefits users who require multi-channel power measurement.

The M7103 streamlines shipping inspections and quality evaluations of solar (photovoltaic) inverters, Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and other devices. This module will further accelerate the global spread of next-generation energy systems that will contribute to a decarbonised society.

Overcoming the rise of high-voltage power systems and measurement challenges

The global shift towards renewable energy, particularly solar power, has necessitated higher voltage systems for improved efficiency. This transition has introduced challenges in power measurement, requiring advanced solutions. As PV inverter and energy storage system (ESS) capacities increase, so does the need for multi-channel, high-voltage measurement capabilities. Hioki addresses these challenges with the M7103 innovative power measurement solution.

Hioki has been providing power measurement technology solutions for many years. Hioki’s high-performance products such as power analysers are already widely used for R&D applications in next-generation energy systems throughout the globe. Next-generation energy systems such as high-voltage PV inverters and ESSs are fields that are already seeing practical usage in society. The application scenes for the M7103 are inspections in manufacturing processes and quality assurance. In the development of this module, emphasis was put on high voltage, space-saving, and expandability.

Key features of the M7103 Power Measurement Module

Maximum input voltage of DC 1,500 V for high-voltage system measurement

The M7103 is suitable for measuring high-voltage systems such as solar power generators and ESSs. The maximum direct input voltage is DC 1,500 V and AC 1,000 V. It can measure 1,500 V PV inverters which are currently mainstream.

Modular design that allows flexible channel number expansion

The M7103 can measure power for 3 channels. Compared to Hioki’s flagship power analyser PW8001 (maximum 8 channels), one logger set (3) can measure more power channels (12 channels) with a comparable size.

By combining 10 logger sets, power of up to 120 channels can be measured. It can be flexibly expanded to match the demand of each application, such as the evaluation of a newly built ESS or shipping inspection of a variety of PV inverters from differing production lines.

(3) A maximum of 12 power channels can be measured with one set of 1 data logger LR8101/LR8102, 4 power measurement modules M7103, and 1 AC power module M1100.

Data Loggers

Standard Model LR8101

Basic functionality needed to collect general-purpose data.

  • Connect up to 10 measurement modules per logger
  • Send data to a computer via LAN
hioki lr8102hioki lr8102

Advanced Model LR8102

Support for large-scale systems and real-time simulations.

  • Synchronise sampling across up to 10 main unit data loggers
  • Extensive communications interfaces for high-speed data transfers
  • Connect up to 10 measurement modules per logger
  • Send data to a computer via LAN

Streamline system evaluation with simultaneous measurement of power and temperature

The combination of the M7103 and temperature measurement modules enables simultaneous measurement of power and temperature. This enables engineers to observe the unique correlations such as the correlation between conversion efficiency and heat generation of PV inverters, or the correlation between charge/discharge characteristics and temperature changes of ESS battery packs. As such, a more complete evaluation of systems can be done through the multiple logging of power and temperature.
