Continuous Radon Monitoring Systems for Air, Water and Soil now available from APC Technology Group
APC are pleased to announce a new distribution agreement with Durridge – a leading provider of professional radon detection equipment and monitoring solutions.
Since 1997, Durridge has offered world-class radon detection solutions for businesses, universities, and governments worldwide. Durridge also provides a wide range of accessories, as well as capture software for performing sophisticated radon data analysis, and expert calibration and maintenance services.
The distribution agreement between US-based Durridge and APC Technology Group will see APC’s Test Solution team support customers in the UK and Ireland with Durridge’s radon test solutions.
Industry Standard Radon Monitoring Systems
Continuous Radon Monitoring Systems (CRMs) are designed to detect and track radon gas levels in real time, making them valuable in several key industries. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate indoors and poses serious health risks over long-term exposure. CRMs are essential in providing ongoing data on radon levels, enabling effective risk management, compliance, and remediation when necessary.
The DURRIDGE RAD7 has been recognised as an industry standard CRM for research scientists and professionals alike. Today, thousands of RAD7s are deployed worldwide and offering users a number of exclusive features that are found in no other radon detectors.
Durridge have built on the RAD7’s success, with the RAD8. With cutting-edge features and optimisations for outdoor use, the DURRIDGE RAD8 revolutionises radon/thoron monitoring in the field and the lab. Featuring an environment-proof, super portable design with long battery life and IP67 water/dust resistance even when the lid is open, the RAD8 can be used conveniently and worry-free whether working near water, on rugged terrain, in a dusty mine, or in the gentle confines of a lab.
RAD8 Key Features
- Up to 4X higher sensitivity than competing units - 70% higher than the RAD7
- Alpha spectrometry provides higher accuracy than pulsed ionization chambers and Lucas cells
- Recovers from high Radon concentrations in minutes - not hours
- Fastest response and recovery times of any continuous Radon monitor/sniffer on the market
- The only radon monitor in the market that is waterproof with the lid open or closed (IP67)
- Compact, light, and rugged - 30% smaller, 20% lighter than RAD7
Test for Radon in water and soil
In addition to the key features of RAD7 and RAD8, APC will also offer a wide range of accessories for measuring radon in water and soil.
Using the portable RAD H20, users can obtain accurate radon readings in water within an hour of taking a sample. The RAD H2O can also deliver results after 30 minutes of analysis with a sensitivity that matches or exceeds that of liquid scintillation methods. For users looking to continuously monitor radon in water such as groundwater, lakes, rivers, and other aquifers, the RAD AQUA can be used.
For extracting radon samples from underground without exposing gas to outside air, DURRIDGE offers various soil gas probes - operable anywhere above the water table, preferably in soil containing few stones. These probes allow for samples to be taken without outside air contamination and are available with or without a water shut-off valve to take care of accidental penetration of the water table.

Ideal for a Wide Range of Test Applications
The use of a continuous Radon monitoring system offers users real-time access to data and the ability to track and analyse the effects of radon. As such, typical applications include:
-
Universities, research labs, and health institutions studying radon exposure and its health implications, or as part of broader environmental health research
-
Assessing radon levels in residential properties by home inspectors, real estate professionals or those involved in the construction industry
-
Monitoring radon levels in workplaces, schools, hospitals, and public buildings by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) consultants
-
Collection of data on radon levels across various regions, contributing to public health research which can be used to set public policy by central Governments
